Salman Rushdie wrote: Reality is a question of perspective; the further you get from the past, the more concrete and plausible it seems – but as you approach the present, it inevitably seems more and more incredible.
Mr. Attila Hochfelner majored in Psychology at West University of Timisoara, Romania and worked in a crisis center for abused, neglected and exploited children before moving to the United States. After earning his MA degree in psychoanalytic counseling from the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis, he applied this therapeutic approach in various clinical settings, from school-based counseling to work in group homes for adults living with mental illness to outpatient clinic to private practice. Attila’s interest in therapeutic work with people is augmented by his passion for living: cooking, bike riding, hiking and nature walks and daydreaming – he wishes to have more time for the latter.
Attila’s interest in psychoanalysis is grounded in his belief that each individual has a remarkable life story that can be revealed and enriched through talk therapy. Stories are guidelines for our actions, thus they become reality. Some of these stories are more straightforward and help us define with a degree of certainty to ourselves and to others who we are, how we should be perceived and what our intentions towards our surroundings are. Some other stories are less obvious to us or others since they obscure our innermost urges, wishes, and feelings, and may not meet the conventional language through which we connect with our fellow humans. Art, philosophy and psychoanalysis are some of the many ways in which a compromise between the two kinds of stories may converge in ever-expanding and meaningful new stories.
